After having successfuly seen Mother through the trauma of a family doctor that obviously tooks steps to harm or kill, with
intent, we miraculously made it home. We were both joyful to be home, alive, and of course, with each other. We delighted
in each other's company. We were like a very happy old couple, and we always thanked God, and one another, for all we had
together.
We had no idea that social services, or other parties including Mother's two estranged youngest, were working
behind the scenes for any reason. Mother had been separated from the bizarre behavior and beliefs of her youngest daughter
for over twenty years, and also her youngest son for at least five years.
Mother and I had returned from her only hospital
stay, a successful polyp removal, noncancerous. We returned alive, despite the efforts of Dr. Noller, who immediately adminsitered
to her the wrong medication in ER, deserted her, and began to throw out most of her medical records. I never leaving Mother,
had summoned the Emergency Room Staff, who successfully brought her through.
However, she was left with an eye that
was "weak", that she described as "sleepy eye". It would drift, or "roll" up, as we imagined
..the muscles had been damaged.
After the initial admittance procedure and mishap with Dr. Noller, Mother was placed
in an isolated, quite patient room. At around 11:30 that evening, the nurse appeared with another round of the same medication
of course scheduled by Dr. Noller. I managed to intercept the nurse and refused to let her administer the drug to mother.
I summoned the charge nurse, and she reinforced this dicision.
The doctor that performed the removal of the polyp was
friendly and very efficient. The nursing staff praised the excellent care that MOther received and further stated taht home
was the best place to be. They offered their shower facilities to me.
We were told to return home. We were joyously
preparing to do so, when Dr Noller, once again put in an appearance, this time he threatened that "(he) I will make it
simple..., I will stop all your MOther's medicines".
These were the quality of life medicines that had been given
Mother to assure that she would she would be safe and well at home, and could live independently. Dr. Noller was fired.
Mother's
doctor, her childhood doctor, had recommended that, as a geriactric patient, she always have on hand those medicines that
would prove life saving, in particular, a broad spectrum antibiotic. Her doctor explained that the elderly are prone to swift
moving infection, that diagnostic efforts are often too late, and also not always accurate. Stoke symptoms in the elderly
can be induced by kidney infection, an often misdiagnosed infection. But, with the help of a swiftly administered antibiotic,
the pattient remained well, and rarely experienced any suffering.
Mother and I joyfully returned home.
The Surprises
Begin
We had been home only one day. Mother and I had a routine that we enjoyed daily. We usually rose at around
five or six am, and Mother and I would wash, dress, cook breakfast, eat, watch the news on tv, clean her room, and then relax.
Just
as I was about to relax, the kitchen door was knocked on, rare for us. I went to the door, Mother was napping. Three people,
a social worker, Paul, a policeman and an appartment worker stood outside, and upon opening entered our apartment. They stated,
the worker.."..that Mother had not been keeping doctor appointments"
He never stopped to communicate with
us, did not validate this statement, did not gather any medical history, did not ask any questions. Mother woke, and was
her her charming self, saying "how are you doing" in a cute manner to Paul. He looked at her, and said "I
can see no reason to take her to the hospital...., Oh..., let's do it anyway".
I told him that I would accompany
him, following in my car, and not to leave Mother alone there, He promised not to, and of course, when I arrived, she was
alone in the hallway.
Mother and I waited almost twelve hours, with no doctor in the hallway of the er room. I stayed
with her, and managed to get food and drink to her. Imagine this, when she should have been recovering at thome.
No
doctor arrived until around midnight. A black doctor arrived, examined her, and said "I can find nothing wrong with
her". We were then moved to another room, and given no reason. However, the Hospital staff told us that we could leave,
and the doctor also said we could.
I approached this doctor at ER, explained to him Mother's predicament with Dr. Noller,
and stated that Mother needed her quality of life medicines, and did he agree to provide her with these and act as her physician?
He agreed.
We returned home.
